Samantha Dahlby is a recovering software engineer with passions for public transportation, kids, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). She currently works at the New Bohemian Innovation Collaborative (NewBoCo), a nonprofit in Cedar Rapids, as the K-12 Education Coordinator. Samantha has two daughters that are 2 and 5, and has learned to enjoy watching them tear apart *most* things in the name of curiosity.
Presentation: The Literacy of the Future: How Computer Science is bringing the arts into STEM
Self expression, creativity, problem solving, analysis, and communication are all skills obtained through computer science. Young children are naturals with these superpowers, and we need to keep these skills alive. With STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) as a major focus in education, learn how computer science is playing a role in Iowa education, and how anyone can get involved.
Workshop: How to Code like a Kid (Sunday, March 19 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Iowa City Public Library)
Hour of Code is a popular movement to expose students to computer science through just an hour of coding. Come experience this for yourself and check out some other fun STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities.
