Tashi Dorji, whose chance encounter with the guitar as a teenager has led him to a passionate career in experimental music and improvisation, with over 16 albums and EPs of original guitar compositions under his belt.
Growing up in the sparsely populated country of Bhutan where media access was highly restricted, Dorji drew his formative influences from classical and flamenco pieces he intercepted from Europe via his shortwave radio. Pitchfork praises his highly impromptu and jarring guitar arrangements, saying, “the range of creative solutions he’s found while trying to avoid the well-worn paths of instrumental guitar music is thrilling.”
Tyler Damon is a Bloomington, IN native whose free improvisation via drums/percussion seeks to reveal obscure, untold narratives. He is a principle curator of “out” music, heading the label Yoke and hosting the long-running free-form/experimental radio program Melody Unasked For.
He has been described by Darin Gray as “the up-and-coming young drummer in the Midwest and a voice that will be active for years to come.” Together, the duo creates what Family Vineyard best describes as “flashes of ecstatic intensity, blurred timbral lines, fractal repetition, noir-ish, cinematic mystery and inclinations toward free play [that] suggest that the two are pleased to follow a winding path to destinations yet unknown”.
