North Carolina native Sarah Louise’s music is entirely rooted in place, a sound as natural as the flora and fauna she pulls inspiration from.
Collecting sounds from birdsongs, flower petals falling on water, rivers, and Appalachian folk music, Louise’s sense of heritage and experimentation results in a refreshing, lush sound which envelops the listener. Her music is a feat of technical skill, featuring all-original tunings, picking patterns, and songs which often transition through a spectrum of emotion.
NPR Music featured “Floating Rhododendron,” off of Louise’s VDSQ Solo Acoustic No. 12. The song’s “tonal shift is partly what makes Sarah Louise’s approach to the guitar so riveting,” writes NPR Music. “As her attention to rhythm and weight is so in tune with the nature that inspires her.”
