Dana T started playing music when he was 12, and earned a degree in music from the University of Iowa in 2013. He’s been traveling the USA since 2012 performing his own music, telling stories, and making jokes with saxophonist Curt Oren by his side. His debut record, tiny mind MASSIVE soul, came out in early 2016. His next album, Harsh Forever, is due for release in spring 2018.
In an album review for tiny mind MASSIVE soul, Little Village reporter Kent Williams wrote, “Dana T packs as much complexity and moony mysticism into these songs as he can, and there’s a musical depth that rewards repeated listenings. His music has an internal logic that can take a while to enter into, but it’s worth the effort. It’s not often you can find music that draws you in, even as it baffles you.”
Dana T also plays in a band called Karen Meat. That’s where all of his guitar solos go. Dana has also been working on studio recording projects at Flat Black Studios in Iowa City since 2012, and has worked as an assistant engineer at Flat Black since 2015.
In addition to music, he works for the University of Iowa as a video editor and graphics animator. In September of 2017, he was part of a team that won a Mid-American Emmy for their documentary Jackson Pollock’s Mural: The Story of a Modern Masterpiece. You can also hear Dana’s music in the UI commercial that plays during halftime of football games on Big 10 TV.
